What is Supportive and Exploratory therapy…
When people are trying to understand losses, whether divorce, death, health or job - this type of therapy looks at the direct causes and contributions. It also explores different alternatives and strategies. Often times people need an objective person to be able to process certain overwhelming feelings and situations. Sometimes you simply need the support that you are unable to find elsewhere, or don’t want others to be burdened or know your situation. In this situation, you might very well consider supportive and exploratory therapy.
What are Cognitive Behavioral Techniques…
This very useful therapy is grounded in the model that feelings are a result of what we think and how we behave. Your thoughts (cognitions) have a tremendous impact on the way you feel and behave. As you learn to think about yourself in a more realistic way utilizing the CBT techniques, you can overcome painful feelings and experience greater self-esteem.
I have been trained specifically in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
What is Ericksonian Hypnosis…
Hypnotherapy combined with counseling is excellent for stress, as well as a multitude of issues. The power of the subconscious is amazing in its ability to heal and calm yourself if you let it. Hypnosis has been used to help with quitting smoking, and is most efficient if there are three sessions combined with other “tools.” It has also been useful for confidence building, while minimizing fears that may prevent you from taking risks to increase your self-esteem.
The Milton Erickson Foundation has three levels of training in hypnosis, Fundamental, Intermediate and Advanced, all of which I have completed as well as post-training education.
What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)…
This is a powerful therapy developed originally to assist Vietnam Vets with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It has proven to be helpful with not only PTSD, but also anxiety and panic disorder as well as negative thinking and beliefs. Studies have shown positive use for the therapy in the areas of headache management as well. It is being used to obtain greater creativity and even improved performace in varioius fields.
EMDR is usually combined with "talk therapy", such as other treatments mentioned in this section, for maximum results. When EMDR is successful the results are astonishing and many people have noticed shifts in their feelings that they didn't think possible. I am an EMDRIA Certified Therapist (please refer to www.emdria.org) with extensive ongoing, updated training.
What is Relationship Counseling...
Relationships can experience difficulties in this stressful world. To have a “third party” help you untangle problems in communication or conflict resolution can be extremely important. Various techniques are used to work on improving these situations. We go through different stages in relationships, and it is important to work through these rough times with the goal of not only saving the relationship, but improving it as well. Relationships should be supportive and nurturing with elements of trust and companionship.
What is Premarital Relationship Counseling...
Computerized inventories called “Prepare” are utilized to find the couple's strengths and weaknesses (areas that need to grow). Areas that are explored are family/friends, financial, sex, children, leisure time, communication, conflict resolution and spiritual. Included in this is a workbook and various assignments designed to work on these specific targets. Couples find the exercises extremely useful in a world full of divorce. It’s an excellent way to avoid simply becoming another statistic.
